PUBLIC SERVICE
Insurance Scheme
PROPOSAL TO LOWER
HOSPITAL FEES
At a meeting of the Canberra Pub-
lic Service Welfare Committee, held
on Monday night, a resolution was
carried that the attention of the Gov-
ernment be drawn to the unsatisfac-
tory condition of the Canberra public
hospital in connection with the treat-
ment of general cases, and urging the
desirability of the construction of a
modern hospital in place of the
present unsatisfactory building.
It was also resolved that in view
of the widespread diphtheria epidemic
in and adjacent to Canberra, the ques-
tion of the adequacy of the present
hospital accommodation for infectious
cases be urgently considered by the
Government.
A proposal was put forward by Mr.
McFadyen, president of the committee,
for a scheme for a hospital insurance
fund to cover Federal public servants
in Canberra, and a special sub-
committee has been appointed to re-
port on the practicability of the
scheme.
