DEVELOPMENT OF THE STATE.
m
GRANVILLE HARBOUR LANDS.
To the Editor of "The Mercury."
Sir,-This being an opportune moment
to bring before the present Parliament
and those interested, a proposition
whereby population and production may
be secured, wo, the committee of the
West Tasmanian Tourist Association,
being ever ready to champion the re-
sources of our West Coast, would urge
the Government to consider the opening
up and civilisation of our Granville Har-
bour lands. Sufficient paper und ink
has been used by officials and others to
demonstrate clearly the value of this
tract of chocolate soil, unsurpassed by
any such in Tasmania, and this being
so and the Imperial Government very de-
sirous of giving monetary assistance to
Dominion Governments to settle over-
seas peoples, we ask our present Parlia-
ment whose slogan may be accepted as
"boldness wins out" to give earnest con-
sideration to that valuable heritage now
lying idle.
This project has been placed before
the Darwin members for furtherance,
and we would cheerfully welcome some
sign of activity on their part in con-
nection therewith. Be the Government
Labour, Liberal, or otherwise, it may
be taken for granted that the thinking
population of Tasmania would heartily
endorse, following with energised soli-
darity, any party or Government bold
enough to beacon our thoughts Into
channels capable of delivering us from
lethargic apathy and ignominious in-
debtedness.
By introducing this matter for your
readers' consideration we trust that in
the near future .tbey, after proof, will
demand that this source of untold wealth
lying at their door, overlooked and ig-
nored, shall be brought Into the lime-
light to help rescue the State into sol-
vency. The West has done it bofore and
run ilo «io «train. On behalf of Hik pnm.
-Yours, etc,
STANLEY LAFFER,
Hon. Sec.
Zeehan, November 15.
