The last has not yet been heard of
Sporran's running at the recent round
of goldfields meetings. The committee
of the W.A.T.C. have now decided to- go
fully into the matter. and on Monday
evening next Sporran's running on the
fields will be reviewed. Those interested
have been summoned to attend on Mon
day evening, but as W., Claus, who rode
Snorran, is at present on his way to
Melbourne with the gelding, his evidence
will not be obtainable, unless, of course,
he is asked to return. The case has
created so much attention in racing
circles that the finding of the W.A.T.C.
committee will be watched with the
greatest interest.
The W.A.T.C. committee have done
away with the registration of bookmak
ers for the Northern Goldfields Racing
Association and the South-Western Dis
trict Racing Association, both bodies hav
ing ceased to exist. • It has been de
cided that for the future all bookmakers
must. be guaranteed by a registered book
maker and not by a private individual..
In future bookmakers will be registered
for two places only-the enclosure and
the flat.
Nominations for the A.R.O. Grand Na
tional Hurdle Race and Steeplechase and
for other events to be run at the South
Australian Club's meetings on August 10
and 17 close on Monday next.
A meeting of the Metropolitan Racing
Association will be held to-day to further
consider the dates allotted them by the
W.A.T.C.
The Gold Cup, which was run last
month at Ascot, was won by The White
Knight, with Beppo second and Bridge
of Canny third. The White Knight ran
favourite, but he got the actual win on
a protest. Eider dead-heated with-him,
and a protest for bumping and boring
was given against Eider. On the same
day Slieve Gallion won the St. James's
Palace Stakes, of 2,650 sorys. There were
only two other runners, and the winner's
starting price was 20 to 1 on. The New
Biennial Stakes was won by Wool Winder
(10 to 1 on) from three others.
Both Noptuiform and Nightfall ran in
the Ascot Stakes, decided last month, the
former ridden by L. Hewitt, finishing
fourth, and the latter sixth. Noctui
form (8.2) started favourite at 11 to 4
against, and Nightfall (8.4) at 10 to 1.
The race was won by Torpoint, 8.4 (by
Trenton-Doncaster Beauty). Feather
Bed (8.0) being second; and Gourd (7.4)
third. It was at this meeting that the
gold vase was stolen.
The Royal Hunt Cup. run at Ascot
just before the last mail left England,
was won by Larry (Amphion--Miss Hoy
den), who was ridden by L. Hewitt. Dal
keith was a starter in this race.
The Lochiel horse Contest. who was a
pronounced failure in India, has re
turned to Sydney. During the coming
season he is to do stud duty at Dr.
Spooner Hart's stud.
Maniapoto. who has been withdrawn
from the Epsom and Metropolitan, is
said to have been backed for the New
Zealand Cup, the weights of which have
not yet been issued.
The English-bred horse Antonio, who
is in I. Earnshaw's stable, and has
several engagements in the spring, is
doing easy work at Randwick.

Player, who injured his stifle while
taking part in the Footscray Steeple
chase last Saturday, is still improving.
He will, it is considered likely, he well
enough to he removed on Saturday
either to Mill Park or to the residence
of his owner, Mr. Albert Miller, at
Toorak.
S. Wommorsley is now training the
IurdlP, racer Deering at Flemington.
After a spell. Eucamleen has been taken
up again it Caulfield liv F. Musgrave.
