Miners Seek To
Raise Pensions
■ IPSWICH, IVcd.—Coal min
ing: pensioners at a meeting: of
the Queensland Colliery Em
ployees* Unions to-day unani
mously adopted a resolution
protesting: against the inade
quacy of the Queensland pro
jected legislation to raise pen
The meeting stated that It was
Incensed at the breach of' faith
by the Premier of Queensland.
The resolutlos adopted was:—
"That this meeting of coal and
oil shale workers pensioners
strongly protest to the State
Labour Government against Its
inaction In not bringing the
pensions benellts up to the
standard of New South Wales as
they become applicable to that
State, thereby avoiding extreme
hardships to our members,
which have been suffered by
them over the last few years. '
"Further, we are extremely In
censed at the breach of faith
by the Queensland Premier In
this regard, and we demand
that his promise to the Fed
eral and District Executive be
fulfilled, and that the Increase
In benefits being brought down
by this session of Parliament
be made retrospective to the
date as applied in New South
Wales, l.e. October ID, 1949.
"Further we strongly object to
the repeal of Section 10 of the
Act. which provides for auto
matic Increases consistent with
any increases made from time
to time under the Social Ser
vices .Consolidation Act, 1947
