Aukland-Horman Wins Close
Golf Title

Although L. R. Chinner, runner-up in the country cham-<*>
pionship on Friday. startled the field by returning a 73 and
led the first round of the Stale Close Championship at Seaton
on Saturday, he was unable to sustain the effort and W. D.
Acklaud-Horman went on to M-in his first close title with
rounds ?f 75, 73 and a total of 148.
Ackland-Honnan was two strokes j
ahead of J. Richardson who. a'ter
a morning 74, was out in 36. but
developed a h4>k in bis irons on
the way home. W. S. Rymili, who
won the title in 1939 when it was
last played, was third—a stroke
behind Richardson.
The play throughout tv inordinately

Ackland-Honnan. who has been run
caslon*. was out in 36 in the morning
round, sinking a 12 footer for a two at
the short seventh and a 10-footer for
a birdie three at the eighth. He took
three putt* on the 10th and drove a
colossal ball through the fairway at the
Ilth. He played par golf for the next;
four holes, missed the green at the 16th
and played a No. 3 iron at the next from
the thick grass to the left of the green.

played his best 36 holes for the season
to finish in filth place. After a 79 In
the morning round, he began well, piled
up a fearful five at the short seventh,
but reached the turn in 38. His last
nine took 37 —the reward of precise golf
and a wen concentrated ?Hort and his
round of 75 should put him la good heart |
for the Open in Sydney.

in 38 and home in 35. his card reading
433 544. 354. In the nfternoan he lost

rounds of 78 and 77, and Willie Harvey.
Boys! Adelaide professional, found Gor
don Westthorp. his young assistant fol
lowing him faithfully, both scoring 78
in each round. Westtborp began none
too well, but after reaching the turn in,
41 he came home in great style in 37.

first round. Coming home he topped his
drive at the 11th. but with a 76 was
