LEADING RUGBY UNION
TEAMS TO MEET
By STAND OFF
The two leading Rugby Union teams —Woodville
and University—will meet at Hindmarsh Oval tomorrow
in what should prove an open game, and certainly one of
the most interesting of the season.
WoodvUle. which plays as a learn
perhaps better than any other first
grade side, will face a heavier Uni
versity pack, and its backs may see
less of the ball than in recent
matches.
Wocdnlle supporters look'to Harris,
formerly of New Zealand and a polished
player, and Scott (a State representa
tive), their breakaway forward, to com
pensate for the University's weight supe
riority In the scrums and loose scrums.
Jose (University) looks like a first-class
winger In the making. He has the price
less asset of going hard and straight for
the line, and he has a tricky run.
The Woodville backs are solid In de
fence. If University gets the ball with
any degree of regularity. It may need to
be. but it also has plenty of go in at
tack. ,
It would be good to see some straight
running and lea z! the Haphazard kick
ing that has marred a lot of Rugby same*
in this and other seasons, a kirk thai
doesn't find touch is often Just a gift of
the ball to the opposition to do some
thing more useful with, as leg-weary for
wards, after following up and then
doublins back, know to their cost.
It was interesting to see University ex
ploit riie cross-kick, with some skill, last
Saturday. There is no more soul-satis
fying try to watch that one scored by a
forward following up in the centre of the
Held from a kick by a hemmed-in wing
- man. There ought to be more of It.
In the other first grade matches. Burn
side and Railways, equal fourth in the
premiership table, will meet, and' West
Torrens <third) will play Old Collegians
ttixthi. '
A line on the probable results of these
matches can be gained from the defeat
of Burnside by Old Collegians last week.
A team from the Pert Macquarle, an
overseas vessel at Port Adelaide, has
asked the onion to arrange a pme to
