ASSOCIATION PLAYER
WINS TWO TROPHIES
H. McKenzie's Fine
Performance

H. McKenzie (West- Torrens) won the South Aus-
tralian National Football Association's Magarey Medal
for the fairest and most brilliant player in B Grade for 1947
and followed it up by taking the Moir trophy for the best
all-round player. In the Magarey Medal count, McKenzie
defeated Hoffman (Port Adelaide) by one vote, with G.
McKay (West Adelaide) one vote behind in third place.
West Torrens collected its third
trophy when K. Nihill won the
Woolley Medal for the leading goal
kicker for the 1947 season. The
Nitschke Medal for the best fol-
lower was won by R. Smith (North
Adelaide).
McKenzie is a brother of Colin Mc-
Kenzie, West Torrens league player.
When counting began at Football House
last night he quickly ran to a lead. How
ever, both Hoffmann (Port Adelaide) and
McKay (West Adelaide) challenged him
strongly towards the end of the count.
McKenzie gained five first preference
votes, Hoffman, three firsts, two second
and a third, while McKay polled one first
and five seconds. Leading figures were:—

In the Moir Trophy, which is presented
by tbe Mayor of Norwood (Mr. J. Moiri.
McKenzie polled five votes. Bis nearest
rivals were Price (Si. W. Tonkin <WT4.
Nicholls (WTi. Hoffman (P). Griffin
(NAI and Broderick (SA), with two each.
Only one point separated tbe first two
men in the Nitschke Medal, which is
given for tbe best ruckman. K. Smith
(NAI. defeated Bradley (Gt with Hislop
(WA). Hill (WAI. Holbreok (N), and
Matthews <Ni. level with three points.
Tbe trophies will be presented before
the grand final which will be played at
Prospect Oval.
Sturt Still Dogged By
Injuries
Sturt, which has been dogged by
injuries in recent matches, will be
below strength far the remainder
of the season. Headon and Lowe
are not expected to play again this
year, while Tngtmm Sanders and
F. N. Giles are unlikely to take the
field this week against North Ade
laide.
Headon was unable to play In the Aus
tralian carnival because of a tfciffh In
jury. He played against West Torrens
three weeks ago. but tattered a recur
rence of ttie injury and bas been
unable to train since that time. Lowe
dislocated a shoulder In the match against
Glenelg last week.
Ingham has not played since being In
jured in the carnival and at present is
able to train only lightly. Sanders is
suffering from a. jarred knee and a
sprained ankle and can be counted out
of the Sturt side this week. P. N. Giles
has a badly bruised sbin and was not fit
enough to train last night.
West Adelaide will field its best teas
for the all-important game against West
Ton-ens. Sutherland, who left the ground
last Saturday owing to an Injured calf
muscle, will be fit. Head trainer "Snowy"
Noble reported last night that the Injury
was not severe and that Sutherland would
be well enough to train tomorrow night.
West Torrens will have all of its players
available. Pyatt. who suffered an in
jured leg in the game against Norwood,
trained last night. There' is a possi
bility that Edwards and Prior may be
promoted to the league side for the match
against West Adelaide.
Giles, Gallagher and Teague were ab
sentees from training at Norwood Oval
last night. Giles is not expected to be.
flt this week, following an ankle injury
in the match against west Torrens. Gal
lagher suffered a recurrence of the leg
Injury which he received while in Tas
mania. The injury U not serious, bat
Gallagher may rest tills week. Teague
suffered from slight concussion last
Saturday, but Is expected to train to
moTipm night.

Lyall Kretsehmer. Port Adelaide and
State wingman. who left the ground wKa

INCIDENTS NOT BEFOBTED
Umpires who officiated in the league
football matches at Prospect and The
barton Ovals last Saturday will be asked
by the Umpires' Appointment Board wby
they tailed to turn in statements on re
portable incidents.
In reporting ibis last night, the secre
tary ?f the SA National Football League
(Mr. T. a. Hill) stated that the Umpires'
Board' toad calied for reports on Inci
dents which occurred during the game
at Prospect Oval and one incident which
happened at Tbebarton Oval.

University
The Amateur Football League semi

who was not an amateur at the time ot
his registration. The executive found
