W.D. Ackland-Horman retained his title of close
champion of South Australia when he won the 18-hole play-<*>
off from D. Denehey at Kooyonga yesterday by one stroke.

Denehey was two strokes up on
the Bth tee but hooked his second.
He hit a great No. 2 iron to the
ninth green and was out in 40 to
Honnan's 41. Coming home the
titleholder sank a 15-footer at the
tenth, picked up a stroke at the
! twelfth and took tbe lead for the
first time with a three at the fif
teenth.
Denehey holed an eight-footer for ?
I birdie at the sixteenth to square, took
no extra putt fit the seventeenth and
Horman. home in 35, won by one stroke.
In Saturday's rounds Horznan took
79 in the morning which he
followed by a superb 73 in the after
noon. A lofty second after a tremen
dous drive at the eighth was plugged
on the green and he took five tor the
bole. Out in 37 bis only error was at
tbe fourteenth, where be was short, but
he knew on the lifteentfa that he wanted
par figures Vo tie with Denehey and he
got them. He left himself a ten-footer
on the eighteenth which would have put
him in the lead, but missed.
After a 77 in tbe morning round when
be reached tbe turn in 37. Denehey
made a bac start in the afternoon, but
