FOOTBALL.
NORWOOD v. PORT.
These clubs met for the second time this
season on the Adelaide Oval on Saturday
afternoon in the presence of about 1,500 spec- <*>
tators. As the Norwoods bad rather easily
beaten the Porte in the previous contest, the
even game which resulted was hardly ex
pected. The Norwoods won the toss, but
there was not a breath of wind to take advan
tage of. At 3.17 McKenzie kicked off towards
the town end. The play commenced on the
gate wing, from where Chandler passed to
Kowe, and he in trying for goal kicked ?
behind. Pleats relieved the pressure by a
useful run along the wing, and tile ball got
into the bands of Haven forward, butGwynne,
marking from the try, sent the ball back.
The Ports were called onto defend for some
time, bet Bushby relieved, and the ball
travelled along the pavilion wing. Mathews
centred, and from a Ecrinimage in front
McKenzie kicked firtt goal for the viators.
From the kick-off the ball was carried in front
of the press-box, where Matbewaagwn centred,
and Mnnro successfully emulated the perform
anoa of McKenzie two minutes later. Two
goals to none was a good start for the saamrtnr?.
The Norwoods, -nothing riMiTitw^ began an
attack on their opponents' stronghold, and
Ple&ss. and Buchan were kept bard at work.
Alter going out of bounds several times at the
cathedral end the ball was carried in front of
tbe Ports uprights, and Kowe neatly punted
the ball through out of a scrimmage. Toe
game was very even till quarter time, when the
ecoks were—Ports,2goals 4 behind?;Norwoods,
Igosl2bebinde. FromtfcethrowdowntheNor
woeds invaded their opponents'territory, and
kept np the attack for some time. Bushby re
lieved, and the magentas, with a brilliant rash,
carried the ball from one end to the other along
toe gate wing. The game at this period was
exceedingly fast. Shaw and £noz relieved,
and Roberts and Gwynne put the sphere into
the baedsof Slattery forward. He tried for goal,

nd-and-blnes prevailed for some time, and
Liston from a scrimmage kicked second goal
for Norwoods. The Eastern Suburban men
continued to have tbe best of the game tall
half-time was called, adding several behinds to
their tally. The scores were then—Norwoods,
2 goals C behinds ; Ports, .2 goals 4 behinds.
Hula sent tfce ball among the Norwood backs
from the throw down, bat Bertram from a
brilliant run carried it to the gate wing, where
it went ont of bound?. From the throw in
Woods centered to Kowe, who passed to
T. ListoD, and he tried for goal, but the
sphere fell short. Elattery, however, marked
it, and kick* d number 3 goal for the Norwoods
at a most difficult angle. The ball continued
to travel from end to end for some time, and
Hille, Coffee, and Kellet, by some well-judged
marks, put the ball into the hands of one of
their comrades, and be successfully piloted
the ball through the uprights. After
a long spell of play on the wing
Woods acd Boberts were each responsible
for a behind. Shortly after Slattery kicked
another. Kellett and LeLeu relieved and the
Ports prevailed, Buehby, Raven, and Robert
son putting in some fine work. At three
quarter time the tcores stood—Norwoods. 3
goals 8 behinds; Port", 3 goals 5 behinds.
From the throw down Munru atid Fry carried
the ball forward, bat Shaw and Knox repulsed
the attack.^ Slattery was given a mark in
front, but tbe ball was again touched as it
went throuph. From the kick-off Collet*
narked, acd goal number 4 for the Norwoods
resulted from a splendid kick. Till the call of
time the Norwoods bad by far the best of
natters. The final result was—Norwoods, 4
pools 9 behinds; Ports, 3 goals 6 behinds.
Daring the latter part of the game the light
became very poor. Mr. A. E. Waldron acted
as field empire, and notwithstanding the
difficulty he must have experienced with
reference to the new isle regnUting tbe length,
of little marks he gave satisfaction to all
patties, .^^^?.^_—
