REPATRIATION.
MR CORBOY'S CRITICISM.
REPLY BY DEPUTY COMPTROLLER.
The attention of the Deputy Comptroller
of Repatriation (Lieut.-Colonel Tilney) was
directed on Friday to some statements made
on the previous day in the House of Re-
presentitives by Mr. Corboy, M.H.R., who
criticised the administration of the Repa-
triation Department. In tbc course of his
speech, Mr Corboy was reported to have
said that in Perth a returned man had been
offered a position as nurse to a little boy at
£'. per week, and that when it was refused
his card was marked "suitable position re-
fused," and his sustenance allowance was
stopped.
Colonel Tilney said he had no knowledge
of such a case, but he would get into com-
munication with Mr. Corboy and ascertain
particulars so that inquiries could le made
Another statement was made by Mr. Cor-
boy to the effect that blinded men received
only two guineas a week, with 10s. for an
attendant. "He forgets," commented Col-
onel Tilney, "that in addition to this they
ate entitled to £52 a year, or to be provided
with a house for as long as they desire
to occupy it, at a peppercorn rental of ls.
per annum."
