FOOTBALL.
F. JENKINS DECIDES.
Remaining in This State.
Despite attractive offers made to him
by three clubs to go to Victoria next
season, the young South Fremantle
player and Sandover medallist, F. Jen
kins, has now definitely decided to remain
in this State. Seen at his home at South
Fremantle last night, Jenkins said that
he had come to this decision within the
past few days.
"I am not going," was his answer to
the inquiry whether he was likely to
accept one of the Victorian offers. Be
yond that he would not commit himself
and his future plans still appear to be
uncertain. Asked whether there was a
possibility of his transfer to another club
in this State, Jenkins shook his head and
refused to be drawn.
Following the announcement that he
had been awarded the Sandover Medal
for the past season, Jenkins was
approached by the St. Kilda Club three
months ago, the offer virtually promis
ing permanent and suitable employment
as well as other inducements calculated
to win the services of any young and
ambitious player. The thrill of playing
before huge crowds was mentioned, and
Jenkins was told that in the event of his
acceptance, all expenses in connection'
with his transfer would be borne by the
St. Kilda Club. A few weeks later, this
offer was followed by one couched in
almost similar terms from Footscray.
When asked a month ago concerning
these offers, Jenkins said that he was
anxious to seize any opportunities he
could to improve his future, but also
stated that he was eager, if possible, to
remain in this State.
Last night he admitted having received
a third offer to play in Victoria, this
time from Geelong. This, also, had many
attractive inducements, but he declined
to make them public. "It was a bit bet
ter than the other two," was his only
comment, adding, however, that he
thought he now had better prospects
here, "or just as good, anyhow."
"I can't say yet what I am going to
do next season," was his parting remark,
"but anyhow, I am glad now that I won't
be leaving the West. That much is cer
tain."
