MR. SACKVILLE KIDMAN.
THE friends of Mr. Sackville Kidman will
regret to learn that, he is lying at his resi-
dence, in Oxide-street, dangerously ill of
inflammation of the bowels. On Sunday Mr.
Kidman was first taken ill, and Dr. Bartley
was called in ; Dr.Dobbyn, locum tenens for
Dr. Brown, has also been in attendance. On
Tuesday night the patient's condition was
much improved, but yesterday he was again
much worse, and Dr. Hamilton, of Adelaide,
was telegraphed for. Dr. Bartley remained
with his patient almost the whole of last
night, and this morning reported that there
bad been a change for the better. Mrs.
Kidman was away with part of her family
when the illness manifested itself, and suf-
fered intense anxiety until she was able to
return on Tuesday morning. Mr. Kidman's
brothers have also come up from South
Australia.
"The Household Manual" (received from
Messrs. Kealy and Philip, the new Sydney
firm of booksellers and publishers) claims to
be "a complete household repository of useful
information, comprising hints on the manage-
ment of kitchen, laundry, poultry-yard, &c.,"
along with rules for home nursing, hints to
housewives, toilet, secrets, and some remarks
on invalid diet. The little book, which has
been compiled by Mrs. T. P. Winning, is
intended mainly for use in the country and
in the cottage ; and it seems to be well suited
to serve this purpose.
