by adding the State Open Championship to the
three titles he has already annexed.

Nothing Spectacular
There was nothing spectacular in
Shepherd's two rounds. He sank no
long putts, and made no brilliant
recoveries. But he did not miss
any putt under five feet, and he
strayed away from the fairway only
race — from a cut tee shot at the 17th
In the afternoon.
He was always straight, and if he
misjudged the distance of his second
shots in the early stages of the
second round, the accuracy of his
shots prevented any serious trouble.
He was out in 36 and home in the
same figure in the first round, and
out in 37 and home in 36 in the
second.
ACKLAND-IIORMAN TRAILS
W. D. Ackland-Horman, with a 76
In the morning, was , four strokes
behind Shephard, but was not pre
pared to relinquish the title he won
ast year without a fight.
He reached the turn in 35 in the
second round, and began home
34444, holing a 12-footer at the 14th.
Here he learned that lie deeded to
finish 4344 to win, but his second
ran off at the 15th, and after a 3
at the 16th he again saw his second
off at the 17th.
Home In 37. he finished with a
72 and a total three strokes behind
Shephard.
Field Speeded Up
W. S- Rymill was partnered by G.
Hodgson over the 36 holes, and
the pair showed how fields can be
speeded up.
Although they were the first pair
off and drove off in thick In,
Rymill reached the torn in a spec
tacular US and finished hii round
of 73 in two and a a.narter hoars.
opening up a gap of 3\b holes on
the rest of the field.
Rymill's figures out read. —
\U :ilJ 344— :-».
After an extra putt at the 11th, he
ippeared to lose confidence in his
gutter and he took three putts on

In the afternoon he was out in 38.
ind going to the 14th wanted par
Igures for a 73. He ran up a 5

- Destree had no long putts, but he
xas hitting the greeas consistently
*ith his second shots, and his rounds
)f 75 and 74 were the result of the
nost workmanlike golf that he has
turned on this season.
Stevens was not in concert with
his putter all day, but J. W. S.
Wilkln. who had ronndi of *ft and
*4, has gained a place in the in
terstate practice side.
R. Christie will not be available for
