R. F. Stevens Wins Third Golf
Title With Record Score

Equalling the course record of 69 in his second round
and setting a new record for the event with a total of 141,
R. F. Stevens, State and Glenelg amateur, won the SA
Open golf championship at Royal Adelaide on Saturday.

After a morning round of 72,
evens reached the turn In 36
ffith two putts on every green

i 5. Coming home he chipped

sank the putt after missing the

He pushed his drive out at the
15th and played a courageous

footer for a 2 at the 16th.
At the 17th his drive was out to
the right and his second thick
and in heavy grass but he played
a good third through, ran up well
and sank the putt.
At the 18th his second wag Vi

Thredgold was 37 both ways In
the morning with no long putts.
He chipped out for a 3 at the 8th
and reached the turn in 37 In the
afternoon. His second finished a
cw Inches from the pin at the
13th and although he missed the
green at the 16th and hit a bad
drive at the 17th he played great
goir to be home In 35.
Destree. who reached the turn
in 36 In the morning round
hooked his second at the 11th
and ran up a 7. A couple of
extra putts brought his home run
up to 41, but he hit the ball beau
tifully to be out in 36 in the sec
ond round. Coming home his
card read 433. 444, 345—34. and he
dropped a stroke at tne last to
miss equalling his own course re
