STATE HIGH SCHOOLS.
STAFFING THE INSTITUTIONS.
HOBART. Friday.
In connection with the establishment of
state High Schools at Launceston and Ho
bart, Mr. P. H. Mitchell, B.A., of the
lBeaconsfield state school, has been ap
pointed to take charge of the Hobart
High School. Mr. Mitchell has been in
the service of the Education Department
for six years, the whole of the time at
Beaconsfield. His record has been bril
leant. His pupils have been particularly
successful in public examinations in Tas
mania. As a staff he will be assisted by
Messrs. G. L. Wood and C. L. Sharp, Miss
Law (ex-student of the Training College),
Mr. i. C. Stephens, BA., and Miss M.
W. Weaver, B.A. Mr. R. C. Miller, B.A.,
has been appointed assistant in charge of
the Launceston High School. Mr. Miller
has been first assistant at the Elizabeth
street practising school for the past four
years, and is known to the department as
a very skilful teacher. Both Mr. hlit
chell and Mr. Miller take a great interest
in school games, and are very popular
with the boys under their charge. Miss
Spotswood, of the Beaconsfield state
school, has been appointed assistant at
the aIunceston High School, the etafllog
of which is incomplete.
The Hobart Trinity Hill School build
ings are being remodelled, and will be
used as the High School here. The Laun.
cceston school will be conducted in rooms
at the Charles-stret state school. The
schools will be opened on Tuesday, Janu.
ary 21. The result of the Qelalifying ex.
aminations for entrance into the hi.:;
schools will not be known before Janne;y

Contingent upon the foregoing appoint
ments, the following transfers are to take
place:--A. C(. Waterworth, Queenstown,
to succeed :,ir. P. H. Mitchell at Beacons
field; A. Hamilton, Burnie, goes to
Queenstown; R. Lee, Longford, to Bur
nie; F. P. Solomon from Latrobo to
Longford; H. J. Smith from Wynyard to
Latrobe. The Wynyard vacancy is to be
filled by A. G. Buring, formerly assistant
at Inrermnry; W. Hills, first assistant,
Beaconsfield, to be first assistant Eliza
beth-street practising school.
