Missing Prospector :
Search Continues
In his opinion there was no prospect
of finding tilhe missing prospcctor. Oscar
Georgc William Warneke, alive, said
Inspector T. A. Canning at Queenstown
last night, on his return from a day
long search in thei country where War
ncke is thought to be lost. No sign
was found of tile man, anld a further
search will be made by parties to-day.
He made the statement, said Mr.
Canning, because of the type of coun
try and the rough weather which had
prevailed at the latter end of last
week. Yesterday's search by the police,
who were assi-ted by :several prospec
tors, failed to reveal any signs of War
ncke.
On Wednesday Messrs. M. J. and C.
Penny and H. Flack travelled to
Crotty, and through 'dimcult country
across the western eid of Mount Jukes.
After camping out on Wednesday night
they reached Harris' Reward, in the
vicinity of which Warneke has his
camp, yesterday:
Inspector Canning and Constable R,
Robertson made an intensive search
yesterday of Flannigan's Flat, and
Trooper G. Sproule, Constable. E. G.
Cole, and Mr. D. Nesman confined their
attentions to the vicinity of Warneke's
camp and claims at IHarris' Reward,
which is about nine miles from Queens
town.
A further search will be made by
parties to-day.
MONEY STOLEN AT
. QUEENSTOWN
Butchery Premises
Entered
The butchery prenmles of theI Mount
Lyell Co. in Driffield-street, Queens
town, were entered between 6 p.m. on
Wednesday and 8 a.m. yesterday, and
about £20 stolen from two safes. The
theft was discovered by the manager
(Mr. E. McHugh), who found the doors
of the safes open.
The matter has been reported to the
police.
FUNDS. OF MEMORIAL'
LIBRARY
Aý credit of £ff 5is 9d was revealed
at the monthly meeting on Wednesday
night of the committee of the Queens
town Robert Sticht Memorial Library.
31r. IH. G. Faull presided.
The librarian (Mis.i M. Schell) re
ported that during June, 2276 books
had been issued from the circulating
branch, and 35 new books had been
placed on the shelves. The member
ship was 243, and £1 Is Id had been
collected for extra books taken.
It was decided that in future the
monthly meeting would be held on the
second Wednesday. The annual meet
ing will take place on. July 20.

SURPRISE EVENING.-A number
of friends oattinded 'n surprise party
to Mr. L. F. Billing, junior teacher
of the Tullah state school, on the eve
of .his departure to the Teachers' Col
lege, Hobamt.. Dancing .and .games
were 'indulged in, .. Supper was pro
vided. Mr. H, Maggs, president of
the Parents and Friends' Association,
presented to -Mr. Billing, on behalt
of parents, friends, and scholars, a
folding camera. Mr. B Iling responded.
