Puckett, Viet.
Baseball
Star, for W.i
MELBOURNE. Saturday. — Charlie
Puckett the baseball sensation of the
1937 season, has accepted a position
with a Perth Dublishiner honsp smr? wi!?
leave Victoria before the end of the
year.
The departure of Puckett will rob
Victoria of one of the finest baseballers
it has ever had. He had only one
season here, but each week he en
hanced a reputation that had preceded
him.
As a South Australian star Puckett
amazed interstate fans by his perfect
catching and bullet-like throws across
the diamond, but it is as a pitcher that
Victorians know him best. His strike
out record mounted at the rate of more
than double figures each week, and he
set new season's figures for Victoria.
Before he left South Australia he
?won -the award for the best baseballer
in that State and in his first and only
season in Victoria he won the Lans
down Medal.
If there is an award for the best
baseballer in Western Australia, it is
any odds that he will annex that also.
