Carrick art is
'fine display'
Ethel Carrick, an exhibi-
tor whose name recalls that
of her late illustrious artist
husband, Phillips Fox, has a
distinguished display of her
work in John Martin's gallery
until Tuesday week.
It includes some European
studies redolent of pre-war
times, before the destruction of
beautiful cities, and gracious
living.
The Pont Neuf, Paris, flower
markets and quiet glimpses of
French beaches must represent
cherished memories of the
artist, and arouse nostalgia in
all to whom such places were
once familiar.
Some Northern Indian paint-
ings of the majestic Himalayas
lend added variety and beauty,
as well as the more recent
works in and round Sydney
and Melbourne.
Good color sense
Mrs. Fox brings to her work
a mind enriched by knowledge
and experience, and a good
color sense.
It is these qualities that lend
charm and distinction to her
work.
The Pont Neuf picture domi-
nates the display and appeals
strongly.
There is an excellent repre-
sentation of warm sunlight in
"Peach Blossom", and several
flower pieces add pleasant
notes of rich color.—Esmond
George.
