MR. H. CHESSON, M.P. (Port Adelaide).
Mr. Henry Chesson, M.P., has sat for Port
Adelaide since the general elections in
1905. He was born at Adelaide in 1862,
is a mason and bricklayer by trade, and
none Help
worked in Adelaide until 1885. He then
went to Melbourne, but since 1892 has
resided continuously in South Australia.
He has been an active trade unionist since
the great maritime strike in the nineties.
He has been in turn President, financial
secretary, and a trustee of the South Aus-
tralian Masons and Bricklayers' Society,
and for eight successive years represented
his union on the Trades and Labour Council.
He has occupied the position of Vice-
President, President, and trustee of the
lastnamed body. He was a member of the
managing committee of the Trades Hall
for three years, and represented his union
on the Eight Hours Committee for a like
period. While a delegate for his union on
the United Labour Party he occupied the
position of Vice-President.
