THK INTEKCOLONIAL KXHIBI.
TION.
The superiority of the present Inter,
colonial Exhibition over everything of the
kind hitherto held in Melbourne is proved
by the large attendances every day since
ils opening ceremony. On Friday Ihe
visitors numbered 4160, and during the
evening the various building! and oourls
were crowded with visitors. Several fresh
exhibits have been recoircd during the
last few days. Mrs J. &. Knight lias
lent in a very handsome shawl, said to bo
woven entirely by hand from Australian
wool. In appearance it resembles the
Paisley shawls. Itt value is said to be 75
guineas. Tke pig iron, to which a prite
has been awarded, ii pronounced by tbe
most practical in the trade to be equal to
imported, and it oan be manufactured and
sold here at a n-ucb lower rate than other
iron, bciidet paying t good percentage in
dividends to any company of shareholders.
The production of Victorian iron will have '
tbe effect of steadying the market price,
which for years psst has been of a fluctu
ating character, and therefore prejudicial
to the interests of the trade in general.
