were some notable failures among the lead
ing amateurs.
McLacblans victory was not due to any
sudden rise to form, but rather to the fact
that he putted well all day. This is bl£ first
win in a big event since he came to South
Australia six years ago. but lie has always
been recognised as one of the stylists of the
game, with a good drive end excellent con
trol of his irons. It has. always, been on the
sreens where he lost the strokes: but. although
bunkered five times oa Saturday afternoon,
he had seven one putt greens. In the morn
ing he was out in 36, scoring a birdie 4 at
the long second, and making up for a 4 at
the third rnd a 5 at the fifth with a 3 on
the sixth and a 2 on the short seventh.
Coming home he scored threes at the four
teenth and fifteenth, but a 5 at the eleventh
and tbc eighteenth took his score to 37. His
