BASEBALL SEMI-FINALS
TOMORROW
Goodwood And Varsity
Likely Winners Of Close
Games

The semi-finals in all crrades of baseball will begin tomorrow.
Close and interesting games are expected, as throughout the
minor round, wih one or two exceptions, low scoring has pre
vailed, indicating a high standard of play. The matches in dis
trict A grade will be between Goodwood and Adelaide, at the
Hawthorn Oval, and University and Prospect, at the Goodwood
ground.
Goodwood, the minor premier team,
will hold the Claude Ewers Cup for an
other year, and lias earned the right to
a double chance in the final. The team
will be opposed tomorrow by Adelaide

wood will field its strongest team, and
the field placings probably -will be:—
Sharpe (pitcher), Fitzsimons (catcher*.

Adelaide Is at a distinct disadvantage with
out Vaughton In the catcher's position. Vaush
ton may be used as a pinch hitter and out. field,
although his damaged hand has not yet fully
recovered. As alterations in the field prob
ably would prove a dangerous experiment, tl e

Minor Grades
Two semi-finals in District B eradc will te
played. The minor premiers. Sturt. may find
Gle'nelg «thlrdi a difficult proposition, but
Goodwood should emerge victorious in its en
counter with West Torrens (fourth).
In Metropolitan Division A. the two Or.od
wood teams will be opposed by Sturt teams.
Goodwood Ramblers, the minor premiers, will
probably find the Blue Sox pitcher (Jonesi dif
ficult to connect with, but the team's accurate
field work may stand it in cood stead. 3:urt
Royal has a strons battinc fide, bur will prob

Th» Metropolitan Division B competition was
keenlv contested throughout the minor round,
and the finalists were concealed until the last
set of matches. Sturt Navy eventually be

field, should put Goodwood out of the com
petition.
The Onkaparlnga side has made sreat pro
gress this season, nnd. finishing second. V.u

strong battln? may counteract the team's
field mistakes, and pive It a further chance of
annexing ihe premiership.
Capps Medallion
The meda'.Iion given by Mr. C. J. Capps for
the fairest and most brilliant player in A grade
was won by Charlie Puckett. o: the Prospect
Club. Alick Smith, of University, was runner
up, closely followed by the young Gienelg first
base. Dick Head. The award was decided
by the sealed votes of the umpires.
Countrr Carnival
The Countrv Carnival has been enthusiasti
cally carried on every afternoon throughout
this week. The games arc keenly contested.
and the standard of play Is good. In today's
£amc Mount Gambier will bippz Peterborough
for the second time. The carnival will con
clude tomorrow mornln?, when Whyalia and
Mount Gambier will play. The game will pro
bably decide the winner of the carnival.
At 1.15 p.m. on the Sturt ground a combined
country team will he opposed hy a city tram
chosen' from the A grade teams not participat
ing In the finals. The city team will be as
