SOUTH AUSTRALIA'S

Admiral Sir DayHortBosanquet, who
has been selected for the post of Gov
ernor of the State of South Australia,
will be the third flag officer 'holding
such an appointment in the Common
wealth. Admiral Sir Harry H, Raw
son has been the Governor of New
South Wales since 1902, and Admiral
Sir- Frederick G. D. Bedford the Gov
ernor of Western Australia. since 1902.
Sir Day Bosanquet completed 51 years'
service on the active list of the Navy
in Marcn last, 'Having joined in isiw,
and for 'nearly the whole of that period
he has been actively employed. As a
midshipman- he served under Sir James
Hbpo in ' China, was present at tho
taWng of Canton, and tho Pelho forts,
and was specially promoted for tha
'high place ho took in passing for lieu
tenant. He next served under Sir
Geoffrey Hornby in the flyimy squadron
of 1869-70, and was then selected arj
senior lieutenant in charge of the cadets
in the Be.a-going training ships Bristol
and Arladno from 1870 to 1S72, gaining
?experience which ho utilised afterwards
in two posts in the training service,
His promotion to commander was from
?the Royal yacht, and ho was then
given the Doris, -mo of the ships which
formed the escort to tho Serapis, in
wWch vessel the King, then Prince of
Wales, went to Itadia. Threo useful
years as captain wcro passed In chargo
of the harbor training establishments,
and in May, 1897, he was advanced to
flag rank. During the 11 years he was
on the active' list of admirals Sir Day
'Bosanquet hoisted his flag three times
— n tho East Indies from 1899 to 1902, on
the North Americaji and West Indies
station, and in tho seagoing training
squadron from 1904 to 1907, and as
Command-er-in-Chicf at Portsmouth
until his retirement. In recognition of
his services he was made a K.C.B. In
19tJ5, and two years later received the
Grand Cross of tho Victorian Order.
?He has also been honored by the King
of Sweden with the Grand Cross of the
Sword, and by the German Emperor
with the Grand Cross of hte Red Eagle.

amiable and popular, Sir Day Bosan
quet possesses the best qualifications
for his new- post, and that he lias
been chosen for It will give great plea
sure to his many friends in the naval
