A LABOR VETERAN.
SENATOR M'DOUGALL PASSES.
SYDNEY, Thursday.
Senator Allan McDougall died at the
Molong Private Hospital, Darlinghurst, on
Tuesday night. He arrived from Mel
bourne on Saturday by train, and entered
hospital on Tuesday morning.
The late Senator left a widow, who re
sides at Rose Bay, and two sons, Charles
and Archibald.
The deceased was 68 years of age, and
had been connected with the Labor move
ment for many years, the last Eight
Hours Day in Sydney being the 50th an
niversary of his connection with the move
ment. He was one of the first members
of the Boilermakers ' Society, which he
formed with Mr. J. S. McGowan, the late
Labor Premier, and he remained as sec
retary for many years, subsequently be
coming president.
The deceased was secretary of the Eight
Hours' Committee in Sydney for some
years. He was elected to the Senate in
1910, with Senator J. Gardiner and Sena
tor Rae, who was afterwards defeated. He
was Acting Chairman of Committees at
the time of his death, and devoted all Mr
time to his political duties.
