Personal Notes
THE engagement is announ-
ced of Elaine, elder
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.
Wilson, of Narara (and form-
erly of Glossodia), to John,
youngest son of Mr. and Mrs.
E. Green, of Belmont.

THE E. W. Wormleatons and
the H. L. Newtons are
away again on a caravan tour
of the North Coast, prior to
the former settling down at
Port Macquarie to conduct a
caravan business.

MRS. E. F. Dunstan, of
Grose Vale, will be flying
to Tasmania to spend Christ-
mas with her daughter and
son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ker-
shaw. She will be accompan-
ied by Nurse Louise Kershaw
and Nurse Helen Hynes
(daughter of Dr. Hynes, of
Killara), and district friends
wish her a very comfortable
trip and happy holiday.
MRS. Sarah Deane, a well
known and esteemed
Windsor personality, had the
felicity lately of celebrating
her 91st birthday anniversary,
and the fact was mentioned
at the December meeting of
the Windsor Council by the
Mayor (Ald. V. W. Gillespie),
who asked Ald. Dean to con-
vey to his mother the con-
gratulations and good wishes
of the council. Ald. Dean re-
plied that he would have
every pleasure in doing so,
and thanked the Mayor and
council on his mother's be-
half.

MISS Noela Strange-Mure,
talented young Riverstone
vocalist, who is now a mem-
ber of the staff of David
Jones, Sydney, is also the
leading vocalist in that firm's
choir, which has been featur-
ing Christmas items for an
appreciative public in recent
weeks. Those who have heard
her singing into the micro-
phone, with the choir behind
her, claim that this exper-
ience alone is worth the trip
to town, and her big band of
admirers in this district could
well believe that this would
be so.

ALD. V. W. Gillespie was re-
elected, unopposed, as
Mayor of Windsor, and Ald.
H. C. Matheson was re-elec-
ted, unopposed, as Deputy-
Mayor, at a special meeting
of the Windsor Council held
for election of Mayor, the al-
lowance being fixed at £260,
as last year. A similar trib-
ute by his council was paid to
the President of Baulkham
Hills Shire Council, Cr. Har-
vey Lowe, who was re-elec-
ted, unopposed, with an in-
creased allowance. At the
December meeting of the Colo
Shire Council there were two
nominations for President, in
the retiring occupant of the
office, Cr. H. C. Matheson,
and Cr. Powell, Cr. Matheson
being re-elected by five votes
to one, his allowance being
£100, as last year.

SQUADRON Leader Colin
Harvey, recently com-
manding R.A.A.F. University
Squadron in Melbourne, has
been posted for flying duties
with No. 11 R.A.A.F. Mari-
time Reconnaissance Squad-
ron at Richmond, and was to
begin duty there on Monday
last. The posting is of par-
ticular interest locally as
Squadron Leader Harvey —
who had wartime service with
No. 30 Beaufighter Squadron
in New Guinea, and complet-
ed another tour of flying op-
erations with No. 34 Squadron
in New Guinea — was naviga-
tor of the first English Elec-
tric Canberra jet bomber to
fly to Australia from Eng-
land, and was navigator to
Wing Commander D. R. Cum-
ing in one of the two Aus-
tralian Canberra jet bombers
to fly in the London-Christ-
church Air Race.

MR. P. B. Charley, of Wind-
sor, as president of the
show council received a voci-
ferous welcome back to the
December meeting of the
council on Thursday after-
noon last, after his recent ex-
tended trip abroad with Mrs.
Charley and daughter An-
nette, and gave the meeting
some very interesting impres-
sions of two of the most im-
portant agricultural shows in
England, and the famous
Dublin Horse Show, which he
also attended. Mr. Charley
(who also happens to be Ring-
master of the Sydney Royal
Show) was tendered a "wel-
come home" dinner, at Wind-
sor, by his colleagues of the
Hawkesbury Show council on
the same evening, when a
most entertaining time was
spent by all present, not the
least appreciated feature of
which was some more remin-
iscences by Mr. Charley of his
experiences and impressions
during his tour.

HIS many friends in this
district were saddened to
learn of the passing on De-
cember 9 of Mr. J. P. Car-
ruthers, formerly of the Com-
monwealth Bank staff at
Windsor (and popular former
hon. secretary of the Upper
Hawkesbury Motor Boat
Club), at Moss Vale, at the
early age of 39 years. An
ex-serviceman, popular bank
officer, good sportsman and
esteemed citizen generally
during his period of service
at Windsor, he earned the
lasting regard of a host of
district friends, whose sin-
cere sympathy is extended to
his wife, young son and
daughter, mother and brother
and sisters, in their bereave-
ment. The funeral took place
on December 12, moving
from the Church of England
at Lavender Bay to the
Northern Suburbs Cremator-
ium.
