  5. REMARKABLE BIRDS AND FISHES FROM GREAT BARRIER REEF.

    Dr. Brooko Nicholls, the Victorian ornithologist, has returned from a second trip to the Great Barrier Reef with a remarkable series of photographs and cinema views of the wild life on the reef and in the lagoons. The cinema studies are shortly to be exhibited. On the left is the fastest flying creature known, the lesser frigate bird or man-o'-war hawk, which, Kipling says, "dines upon the Amazon and breakfasts on the Senegal." It has a wing expanse of 6ft. and a bill 5in. long. In the upper centre picture is the very rare brown-winged tern; below are the large melon or "baller" shellfish found in the lagoons. This picture, taken under water, shows the queer elephant-like trunk: the molluse is a foot in length. On the right is the remora or sucker fish.
