    GLENELG ON COMMEMORATION DAY. On December 28, 1836, Captain John Hindmarsh landed at Holdfast Bay (now Glenelg) from H.M.S. Buffalo to found the province of South Australia. His Excellency was carried ashore on the back of a sailor, and read a proclamation under a gumtree to a few hundred people who had preceded him to the colony. Since then Glenelg has been the scene of an annual celebration of the occasion. Photograph shows the foreshore on Commemoration Day last week, but the temperature of 101 degrees in the shade drove the crowds to seek shelter away from the beach.—Krischock. ... [ILLUSTRATED]
