Scope and Contents

Correspondence files (1969-1974) created by John Ward in his capacity as Secretary of the Australian School Library Association. The Secretariat was situated in Melbourne, during the period of this correspondence. Also includes further correspondence, minutes, reports, and conference arrangements. Contains material relating to A.S.L.A., I.F.L.A., Children’s Book Council, W.A.S.L.A. and related bodies.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The first part of the collection was acquired by the Library in the 1970s (Files 1-2). Additions were made to the collection in May 1980 (Files 3-23), February 1981 (Files 24-28), 16 February 1983 (Files 29-94), 25 February 1983 (Files 95-100), May 1985 (Files 101-112) and November 1985 (Files 113-115). Further material was added in 1987.

The consignment of 11 November 1985 included tapes of the 1970 A.S.L.A. Conference. The tapes are held in the Oral History Collection at TRC 1884.

Arrangement

The order of the files is chronological within consignments.

Administrative History

The Australian School Library Association was founded in 1969, John Ward was its first secretary.
