Introduction

Scope and Contents

Typescript of the journal of Dr. Samuel T. Haslett written between 1842-1852. The journal deals with a range of topics including conditions on emigrant ships, colonial society in the 1840s, the convict system in Tasmania, bush life and the Victorian gold rushes. The journal was transcribed by Haslett's grandaughter Mrs. Francis Frazer in 1939. The preface was also added by Mrs. Frazer.
