Garnet Hannell Carroll, entrepreneur, was born in 1902, Singleton, N.S.W. He began performing as a chorus singer and actor, before working as a stage manager in the late 1920s. He married the Australian actress Catherine Stewart Elliott ('Kitty Stewart') in 1930, and worked as a stage manager for Benjamin Fuller, soon becoming Fuller's protege and business partner. He formed Gaiety Theatres Ltd with Fuller in 1941 and the Carroll-Fuller Theatres Pty Ltd in 1946. He managed the Princess Theatre, Melbourne and the Capitol Theatre, Perth, presenting plays and musicals to as wide an audience as possible. Carroll died in Melbourne in 1964.
