MS Acc09.040 comprises field notes, articles, photographs, press cuttings and correspondence relating to the 1948 Arnhem Land expedition and 20 new species described by Specht during that expedition. There are also publications relating to Specht's work on national parks and conservation. In addition, one box of Specht family history material including a proof copy of a related family history publication (5 boxes, 4 archive cartons).
The Acc09.111 instalment consists of a copy of Specht's family history, The flight of the woodpecker, published in 2009 (1 v.).

Botanist and academic. Born in Adelaide in 1924, Raymond Louis Specht, Emeritus Professor of Botany, was Professor of Botany at the University of Queensland from 1966 to 1989. An active member of a great number of scientific bodies and committees, he has published widely in the fields of botany, ecology and conservation. Specht was Expedition Botanist on the American-Australian Scientific Expedition to Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory in 1948-1949.
