Introduction
Scope and Contents
Publicity and information material 1927-1936, including pamphlets issued by the League and others, reprints of newspaper articles and letters, advertisements and miscellaneous papers, together with newspaper cuttings filed under subject headings (25 folders). There are also records relating to the Australian Industries Development Association, 1952-1956, including copies of letters, addresses, circulars, receipts, etc. Correspondence for the years 1934-1937 (some 150 folders) arranged alphabetically; Secretary's Reports 1923-1942 (not complete), being monthly reports presented by Mr. J. Hume Cook (Secretary from 1921 to 1942) to the Executive.

The collection was presented to the Library in 1962 by Mr Puzey, Secretary of the Australian Industries Development Association.
Administrative History
The Australian Industries Protection League was founded in Melbourne in January 1919, superseding the Victorian Protectionist Association. In 1952 it was renamed the Australian Industries Development Association and its charter broadened. Secretary of the League for the period 1921 to 1942 was J.N.H. Hume Cook.

Series 1. Correspondence, 1934-1937
Subseries 1-1. Correspondence, 1934-1935 - Box 1
Comprises 75 folders. The folders are labelled on raised tags and filed alphabetically according to correspondents name in one sequence A - Z, i.e. "A" 1935, "B" 1934, "B" 1935, "K" 1934, "K" 1935 etc. With headings such as the following interpolated: Sydney Chamber 1934, Sydney Chamber 1935, Associated Chamber 1934. Letters for Literature 1934, McKay; Massey Harris 1935, T.S. Nettlefold 1934, Shovels 1935, Tiles 1935, Tweddle Hospital 1935 etc.
Series 2. Secretary's Reports, 1923-194 - Box 4
Comprises 17 folio folders. Reports by the Secretary of the Australian Industries Protection League to the President and Members of the Executive, presented monthly. Occasional Special Reports also presented. Recurring sections include "Publicity and Propaganda", "Deputations", "Interviews", "General Correspondence", "Finance" etc. Each folder contains the reports for a year. The following years are not included; 1926, 1927, 1930. With relatively few exceptions the set for each year is complete and gives a valuable outline of the League's activities.

Subseries 3-1. Printed material, 1927-1936 - Box 5
Comprises 66 folders. Folders filed according to own individual registration system. A collection of multiple copies (in most cases) of: Pamphlets issued by the League (and others); reprints of newspaper reports, letters to the editor by the Secretary of the League, Hon. J. Hume Cook, and articles (chiefly in The Age, Melbourne); reprints of periodical articles; miscellaneous papers, addresses and advertisements. [The order of the original register system has been restored].
Subseries 3-2. Printed material, 1928-1932 - Box 6
Comprises 25 folders Principally a collection of newspaper cuttings from The Age, Herald, Daily Telegraph [England] - many annotated - pasted on quarto sheets and filed in folders under subject headings such as, Australian Trade, Empire Trade, Wheat Industry, Ottawa Conference, Metals, etc.
Series 4. Miscellaneous, 1925-1956
