Biographical Note

Historian Marnie Bassett (Lady Flora Marjorie Bassett, née Masson) was born in Melbourne in 1890 into a distinguished academic family.

Bassett published a number of books on topics of Australian history. She received Honorary Doctor of Letters degrees from Monash University in 1968 and from the University of Melbourne in 1974 and was a foundation fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities.

Marnie Bassett died in 1980.
