Ppapers documenting Raymond Hanson's music career as a performer, teacher and composer. They include personal and business correspondence, programs, biographical material, war service records, curriculum material, music scores and a photograph.
Comprises 4 boxes.
'Prospectus' for the NSW State Conservatorium 1947-1974; Esteidfodd programs for NSW 1959-1960s; Programs for the NSW State Conservatorium 1920s-1930s; Programs of performances by Hanson of of his works 1950s-1970s, 1947-1975 (File) - Box 1
Files of notes by various researchers on Hanson's works; includes transcript of interview by Max Keogh, and a catalogue of Hanson's works prepared by Graham Hardie (File) - Box 2
Personal documents including War Service records, and a 1999 letter from NSW Special Branch to daughter Annabel Gleeson confirming that Special Branch held no file on her father Raymond Hanson, 1940s-1999 (File) - Box 2
Personal and business correspondence; includes personal cards and letters from family members and friends; also business correspondence concerning Hanson's life as a performer, teacher and composer, 1940s-1970s (File) - Box 2
Two draft letters of particular importance are included. One is a post-war letter to a medical practitioner, explaining his identity as a composer; the second is a letter of resignation to the Board of Studies.
Business records relating to the administration of Hanson's estate and musical copyright remain with his daughter Annabel Gleeson.
Curriculum material developed by Hanson during his tenure as a lecturer in harmony and counterpoint at the NSW Conservatorium of Music; includes some Minutes of the Curriculum Board; written statements on Hanson's musical philosophy; one notebook used for marking NSW Eisteddfods (File) - Box 3

Class MS Acc10.164. Second Consignment
Photographs, biographical material and a published music score. The photographs are uncaptioned and comprise portraits of Raymond Hanson and other photographs of Hanson with colleagues and students. There is a paper by Graham Hardie titled "Raymond Hanson (1913-76): notes towards a biography" (1995), and a short description written by Larry Sitsky of Hanson's personal qualities and musical career (1984). The music score is Five portraits (Op. 23) (ca. 1954), a collection of short pieces for piano, with a handwritten inscription by Hanson on the front cover, to his wife Moira.
