Introduction
Immediate Source of Acquisition
Acquired in the 1970s from Ian Angus and Byrne Goodrick.
Biographical Note
Byrne Ernest Goodrick was born in Ballarat, Victoria on 27 September 1921. He began work in the Victorian Department of Crown Lands and Surveys in 1939 as a Junior Draftsman. He served with the 2/1 Australian (Corps) Topographic Survey Company (more generally referred to as the 2/1 Topographic Survey Company) in WWII in the Middle East and the Pacific and returned to the Lands Department in 1945. He began working with the Division of National Mapping (NATMAP) as Chief Draftsman and later as Chief Cartographer, Chief Executive Officer in 1977 and NATMAP delegate to the Technical Sub-Committee of the National Mapping Council and was Chairman from 1977 to 1980, 1982.
In 1976 he received the Member of the Order of the British Empire by Her Majesty the Queen for his public service in the mapping of Australia. He played a prominent part in many of the significant mapping based projects undertaken in Australia. He was a Foundation Member of the Commonwealth Public Service Board Standing Committee on Drafting Standards, the International Cartographic Association, and the Australian Institute of Cartographers. In 1981 he was seconded to the United Nations as a Cartographic Expert in the Philippines Coast and Geodetic Survey. Byrne was involved in mapping for sight-impaired persons, known as Tactual Mapping or Tactile Mapping, developing many of the techniques associated with such mapping. He was appointed tactual mapping consultant by the Division of National Mapping. He retired as Chief Executive Officer, Cartography at NATMAP in 1984.
Ian Angus (presumably Ian Armstrong Angus), had a long career at the Department of Civil Aviation, including as Assistant Inspector of Aerodromes in WWII, and later as a Senior Draftsman. Angus and Goodrick were involved in the Australian Public Service Drafting Grades Review in the mid-1960s.

Series 2. Data sheets in folders
Provenance Note
A memo from 1990 in internal records indicates this material was housed with the Byrne Goodrick collection but came from another, unknown source.
Subseries 1. Australia and New Guinea aerodromes in numerical order
The two folders contain data sheets in numerical order for aerodromes in Australia and New Guinea. At that time all aerodromes were allocated a number in a numerical sequence, with water aerodromes being prefixed by 'S'. All data sheets have been issued under the authority of R Williams, Director General of Civil Aviation.
In both folders there are gaps in the numerical sequence.
Subseries 2. Australia and New Guinea aerodromes in alphabetical order
The four folders contain data sheets in alphabetical order for aerodromes in Australia and New Guinea. All data sheets have been issued under the authority of R Williams, Director General of Civil Aviation.
A-C (File 2A)
Alphabetical Aerodrome Data Sheets contains at the front a 'LIST OF D.C.A. AERODROME DATA SHEETS (Quarto Size) at 23.8.51'. There are two sheets and the aerodromes are grouped by the States and Territories, and TNG, along with each allocated number. There are only two aerodromes listed for TNG; 597 Asaloka Mission and 718 Ogelbeng. The remainder of the folder are aerodromes A to C in alphabetical order, with each letter separated by a divider.

The latest NOTAM in the first folder is 24/1931; it also contains an index of landing grounds revised to Notice No. 1 of 1933.
