Hannah, the shearers cook, cooking for 12 shearers and assorted crew. The job requires cooking 3 main meals per day, and substantial morning and afternoon teas.

Ferriers Woolpress, number 1211, Yalla-Y-Poora homestead, Yalla-Y-Poora, Victoria, 31 March, 2021 (Item PIC/21263/2)

Yalla-Y-Poora homestead, dates back to 1858 and was originally a 20 stand blade shed. The original Ferrier's Woolpress, number 1211, is still usable, but has been well overtaken by a newer hydraulic woolpress.

The woolshed is rooved with flat galvanised iron panels or tiles, the facade being most likely flattened kerosene tins. Like many sheds of it s age, it is facing significant structural damage.

Timber flooring made from Bluegum rounds in the woolshed at Cornerstone Stud, Angaston, South Australia, 9 September, 2022 (Item PIC/21263/4)

The woolshed is dated approximately 1880s. The timber flooring is made from Bluegum rounds and trimmed into Hexagonals. The property is now a high quality Race Horse stud, although some shearing still occurs there annually.

Native pine log construction and tin windows make the woolshed or shearers shed a classic woolshed. The interior has native timber features and includes Stick Gates, made from smallish tree boughs.
