Scope and Contents
MS Acc11.079 comprises papers relating to Axel Clark's career as an academic and author. Included is research material relating to Clark's books on Henry Handel Richardson, drafts of his writings, copies of his M.A. and Ph.D. theses together with copies of theses by students that he supervised. There is also a large group of letters from friends and colleagues, spanning a number of years. Correspondents include Betty Caplan, Jane Carnegie, A.R. Chisholm, Frank Engel and Helen Garner.

Biographical Note
Academic and author. Axel Clark was biographer of Christopher Brennan and Henry Handel Richardson. He was the son of Manning and Dymphna Clark.

Contains photographs of scenes around Sydney, including buildings, monuments, cars and the Harbour Bridge under construction; boats and ships on Sydney Harbour, including the Renown; several of scenes around Berrima, Bulli and the Victorian highlands. Names of people depicted in various of the photographs include: Dr Crossle of Bulli, [Mr] R. Windeyer, Evelyn & Beatrice Tildesley, Radcliffe Brown (1928), Dr Kuraz Gale the Czech Consul, John A.L. Gunn and family, Annabelle Kay, and Naomi Waters

Includes papers relating to Clark's book on Henry Handel Richardson, including copies of early photographs, research material and text of a speech made at the launch of the book; research material relating to Christopher Brennan comprising photocopies of Hermes and The book lover (early 1900s). There are also several Clark family photographs and a copy of the Order of Service for the funeral of Dymphna Clark (2000). Note: envelope annotated as containing photographs of 'Ettie, MR, WLR' etc was found to be empty.
