Scope and Contents

Collection of images documenting the sport of bouldering in various locations around Launceston, Tasmania including Beta Park climbing gym, Cataract Gorge, Bradys Lookout State Reserve, Hillwood and Duck Reach. This collection showcases the vibrant and dedicated community that brings the sport of bouldering to life, both indoors and outside on the rock. Bouldering is one of Australia's fastest growing sports. There are currently 100 climbing gyms in Australia with over 300,000 climbers. Competition climbing debuted at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo (2021). The interest in this form of climbing has tripled in the past seven years, both indoors and outdoors.
