Scope and Content
The collection contains papers relating to Roxburgh's research for her books, including Throsby Park (1989), Early colonial houses of New South Wales (1974) and Colonial farm buildings of New South Wales (1978), together with material on architecture and early Australian families.
The papers include photographs, legal documents, correspondence, newspaper clippings, drawings, elevations, catalogues, financial records, slides, committee meetings reports, and research notes. The majority of the papers are original documents.

Provenance
The papers were donated to the National Library by Rachel Roxburgh on 28 May 1991. A typescript draft of 'Throsby Park' was donated in 2002 by Betty Howard (Box 19).

The collection was well organised and listed by the donor.
The papers have been arranged by the Library into seven series.
Biographical Note
Rachel Roxburgh was born in Sydney, New South Wales in 1915. She attended East Sydney Technical College and Adelaide Perry School. Afterwards she spent ten years in England and Europe, where she continued her studies at London Central and Hammersmith Art Schools. After her return to Australia she taught arts and crafts.
Roxburgh wrote a number of books on architecture and early Australian families. Her published works include The Early Australian scene: illustrated by example of early buildings in New South Wales (1969), Thomas Potter Macqueen of Segenhoe, New South Wales (1972), Early colonial houses of New South Wales (1974), Colonial farm buildings of New South Wales (1978), Berrima Court House (1981), Throsby Park: an account of the Throsby Family in Australia 1802-1840 (1989) and Some early colonial buildings (filmstrip, 1962). She also published a number of articles on old buildings, for example those published in the Journal of the Royal Australian Historical Society (New South Wales).
Roxburgh died on 13 April 1991 in Castle Hill, New South Wales and is survived by her brother, Mr J. Roxburgh.

Series 1. Throsby Park: an account of the Throsby Family in Australia 1802-1840 (1989), 1828-1985 - Box 1-5, 19
This series comprises plans, documentation, historical information, correspondence, committee meeting reports, books list, photographs, slides and notes on the furnishing of Throsby Park near Moss Vale. A typescript draft of 'Throsby Park' was added in 2002.
Series 2. Photographs, 1950-1977 - Box 6-7
This series contains contact proof sheets of photographs, taken between 1950 and 1977. These photographs were used to illustrate Roxburgh's books Early farm buildings of New South Wales (1974), Early colonial houses of New South Wales (1978), as well as her writings on other historic buildings of New South Wales. The series also includes a catalogue of the National Trust of Australia (New South Wales Branch) containing photographs and documentation of 35 historic buildings in New South Wales.
Information about the items in this series includes, where known, the house and region to which the photograph relates, the photographer where known and any item number(s) associated with the items.

This series includes Roxburgh's notes taken from various diaries, as well as newspaper cuttings, photographs of drawings, directories and squatting licences. There is information relating to various houses and buildings in New South Wales.
