Canberra, plan of city and environs, 1:31,800, 1927 (Item 1) - Folder 1

Diazo print map showing route to be taken by Regal Party from Government house to Parliament House, and from Parliament House to the saluting base, for the opening of Parliament in 1927. Also shows post and telegraph offices, lavatories, camping areas for the public, parking areas, review and viewing areas, and the main Yass Queanbeyan road, all hand drawn in colour on base map. Base map is Canberra plan of city and environs / drawn by Home and Territories Dept. Lands and Surveys Melbourne, 1918, (H.J. Green printing). Additions by Federal Capital Commission. Annotation in pencil on front with unlabelled symbols. On sheet 51 x 41 cm.

Colour topographic map of the ACT, showing roads (in brown), railways (including "Proposed Yass railway") and stations, schools, watercourses (in blue), and district boundaries. Four-digit elevation(?) figures are given for selected localities, but are quoted without units in some cases. Also shows Michelago and, west of the Cotter River, labels a "belt of forest brown barrel mountain gum & mountain ash." Relief shown by hachures and spot heights. Includes two boxes containing text at top: "Seat of government acts etc." and "Notes". J.G.B. printed on lower left corner. On sheet 54 x 39 cm.

Mullett, government printer, in 1918, this reprint by the new printer, H.J. Green, was probably made between 1924 (when Green succeeded Mullett) and 1927 (when the printing office moved form Melbourne to Canberra). 83 x 65 cm., on sheet 92 x 72 cm.
