Fonds. Records of HM Ships, 1673 - 1893
Series ADM 8. Admiralty and Secretariat. Registers, returns and certificates. List books, 1673 - 1893
This Series contains monthly lists compiled in the Admiralty Office for the information of the Board, entitled 'The present Disposal of His Majesty's Ships and Vessels in Sea Pay', which provide a record of ships on foreign and home stations and engaged in particular types of service. From 1674 the lists appear in the form which they retained until 1853: returns of ships and vessels in commission, arranged geographically, naming their Captains (and lieutenants up to 1808), stating their complement of men and guns, when they were commissioned, when they had last been docked, and data relating to the size and power of the ships...

Fonds. Records of Stations and Fleets, 1828 - 1900
The earliest existing records of stations covering the Australian-Pacific region date from about 1830. At that date the Pacific area east of the 170 degrees W Meridian was the responsibility of the South America Station, while the Pacific area west of the 170 degrees W Meridian and the eastern Indian Ocean was the responsibility of the East Indies Station. In 1837 the eastern Pacific was allocated to the new Pacific Station. In 1859 the Australia Station was established, taking over the area of the East Indies Station south of 10 degrees S Latitude. The China Station, which had previously been the senior division of the East Indies Station, was set up in 1864 and was responsible for the seas surrounding Malaya, the Dutch East Indies, New Guinea, Indo-China, China and the Philippines. Relatively little material relating to Australia and the Pacific is contained in the records of the East Indies Station, so none of these records have been copied.
