Introduction
Scope and Contents
The collection comprises original letters from Charlotte Louise Knight Gregson (nee Hughes) to her family of Middleton Hall, Northumberland, England after she emigrated to Australia in 1876 aged 26. Included are sketches, water colours, shipping documents, school reports and photographs. The letters detail her farming life in Harden, with comments on colonial life including the shearers' strike, suffragettes, 1890s banking crashes and bushfires. There is also mention of men going off to World War I, railway-building, the establishment of Canberra as the capital, and a relative who was part of Mawson's expedititon. Also included are letters from Frank Hughes (Charlotte Louise's brother) to his family, photographs of George Charles Knight Gregson and Frank Hughes, and a death notice and obituary of Stanly Hughes (Frank Hughes's son).
The collection also features two volumes of typed transcripts of letters of Charlotte Louise Knight Gregson (bound copies and electronic copies), edited and with additional material by Prue Jolley, the great-granddaughter of Charlotte.

This consignment comprises original letters from Charlotte Louise Knight Gregson (nee Hughes) to her family of Middleton Hall, Northumberland, England after she emigrated to Australia in 1876 aged 26. Included are sketches, water colours, shipping documents, school reports and photographs.

Mainly Louise's letters (no. 1 to letter 92) written to her mother, eldest brother George and sister Isabella. Letters have been divided into sections: 1866-1867, Letters C L Knight Gregson 1877 – 1889 and 1890 – 1899". They include brief descriptions of the migration to Australia in 1876 when Louise was aged 26, news of family life and events - the Boer War, bank panic and shearing at Cunningham

Mainly Louise's letters (no. 93 to letter 232) divided into sections: 1900 – 1905, 1906 – 1909. Letters contain news from Cunningham prior to the sale of the property before the move to Camden Springs. Correspondence to her sisters Carrie and Isabel, brothers George and Pringles; includes some responses from George Charles Knight Gregson

This consignment comprises correspondence from Charlotte Louise Knight Gregson to her family in England as well as correspondence from Frank Hughes, Charlotte Louise's brother, to his family. Also included are photographs of George Charles Knight Gregson and Frank Hughes, plus a death notice and obituary of Stanly Hughes (Frank Hughes's son).

This consignment comprises a bound copy of Volume I of typed transcripts of the letters of Charlotte Louise Knight Gregson (nee Hughes) and family, 1865-1922. The volume was produced by Prue Jolley, the great-granddaughter of Charlotte Louise.

This consignment comprises an electronic copy of Volume I of typed transcripts of the letters of Charlotte Louise Knight Gregson (nee Hughes) and family, 1865-1922. The volume was produced by Prue Jolley, the great-granddaughter of Charlotte Louise.

Class 5. Consignment received May 2021
This consignment comprises correspondence of Ethel Knight Gregson (Charlotte Louise Knight Gregson's daughter), who was born and lived in Galong, New South Wales. The letters are mostly between her siblings, friends and a lover, who she never married, along with many letters from her mother. There is also correspondence of Charlotte Louise Knight Gregson, including responses to letters she sent whilst at school in Brussels and many letters to her from her siblings in England
This consignment also features a bound copy and an electronic copy of Volume II of typed transcripts of the letters of Charlotte Louise Knight Gregson (nee Hughes), 1865-1927. The volume was produced by Prue Jolley, the great-granddaughter of Charlotte Louise. This volume includes replies to letters that feature in Volume I of the transcripts: a bound copy of Volume I of the transcripts is found in Class 3 of this collection, and an electronic copy is in Class 4 of this collection.
