Geological map of the Hunter River Valley between Greta and Muswellbrook, ca. 1928 (Item 1)
The map explores the geology of Muswellbrook and the Hunter Valley region. The map illustrates the geological periods: Post-Tertiary; Triassic; Permian; Carboniferous; Tertiary. The Permian period in chronical sequence shows sedimentary rocks beginning at the lower marine series, followed by the Greta Coal Measures, and Upper Marine Series which include: Branxton Stage, Muree State and Crinoidal Stage, with the final the Upper Coal Measures. The Tertiary period contains Igneous rock, namely Basalt (intrusive and extrusive) as well as Sills - mainly Alkaline Dolerite. The Map also features a locality map and the sites proximity relative to G.N. Railway within New South Wales.On sheet 64cm x 64.5cm.
