Midshipman Francis Addington. Log kept on H.M.S. Wolverene, (Box 76), 1 August 1876 - 18 December 1878 (File F4)
Addington was a son of the 3rd Viscount Sidmouth. The log describes the voyage from Sheerness to Sydney, via Cape of Good Hope (Aug-Dec. 1876) and service on the Australian Station, including visits to Sydney, Hobart, Wellington, Auckland, Fiji, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Lyttelton, Norfölk Island and New Caledonia. The remarks are quite detailed. There are maps and sketches of Lord Howe Island, L'Esperance and Crozet Islands. There is also a log kept on H.M.S. SapphoSappho on a voyage from Sydney to Chatham via Cape Horn, 18 Dec. 1878-1 May 1879.
