31 letters written by Teale to his parents in Australia. The early letters describe his voyage to England in 1908. The remainder were all written in Africa - Lagos, Enyiba, Victoria Falls, Congo River, Dar-es-Salaam, Dodema - and mostly describe his travels and geological surveys in Africa. There are, however, references to Australian events and reminiscences of Australia.

The notebooks describe fieldtrips to Royal Park, Macedon, Ascot Vale, Burnley, Maryborough, Sydenham, Belgrave, Monbulk, Warrandyte (1906), Coburg, Studley Park, Geelong, Yan-Yangs, Lilydale, Keilor, Ballarat, Bacchus Marsh, Macedon (1907). They contain maps, diagrams and photographs.
