The Australian Securities and Investments Commission’s (ASIC) MoneySmart website provides guidance on finding unclaimed money held by both the Commonwealth and State governments.

If you are searching for money previous to 2001, you can also consult various print editions of the Commonwealth Gazette. For the year 2000, check the Australian Securities and Investments Commission Gazette.

Between 1990 -1999, the publication Do we have any of your money? contains a list of all accounts transferred to the Commonwealth in the previous calendar year and gives details of account owners, their addresses and the name of the bank and the State in which the account was held. This was published as an issue of the Commonwealth Periodic Gazette until 1989.

Another useful print item for the years 1995-1999 is Life insurance unclaimed money.
